Geraldine & Vincent

I grew up in Ireland and after several years living in the UK and Canada, I settled in St Remy de Provence in 2010. Even though I am a native English speaker, it was when I started teaching in a Francophone community in Canada that I realised how important English is in the world. I completed the TEFL Masters course which has helped me teach my mother tongue to others.

My professional experience includes previously working in commerce and finance, and in more recent years teaching adults and children. I love meeting people from all sorts of cultural backgrounds and countries. I enjoy pottery, painting, cooking, cycling, hiking and spending time with friends and family. I live with my husband Vincent (originally from Wales), who works full-time as an engineer. He loves DIY and spending time outdoors. My son has just finished college and is about to move to Paris. My daughter is studying at a university in Ireland.

The home

We live in a quiet neighbourhood in a Provençal villa with a large garden, a ten-minute walk from the centre of St Remy de Provence. Our kitchen and living and dining area is open-plan, we also have another living room area and study. During the spring and summer months we often eat our meals outside on the covered terrace.

The guest bedroom is in its own part of the house on the ground floor while the family bedrooms are upstairs. A small light bedroom with a comfortable double bed, a wardrobe (with hanging space and shelves), bedside table and lamp. A private bathroom with sink, shower, bath and separate toilet.

Location

St Remy de Provence is a small town in the South of France famous for its weekly market and that offers many places to visit either in the town itself or in the surrounding area.

Things to do

There is a cinema, lots of restaurants, galleries and museums as well as cultural events that take place throughout the year. Nostradamus was born in St Remy and Van Gogh spent a year living in the local hospital and during that time, he completed several paintings which are exhibited in galleries all over the world. There is a Roman archaeological site just beside the Alpilles hills which offer a wide range of walking and cycling trails. St Remy is a very popular tourist destination, as are the nearby towns & cities including Avignon, Arles, Nimes and Aix-en-Provence.
