I am a French citizen and writer, born in India (Calcutta), awarded, among others, by the French Academy in 2014 “for my brilliant contribution to the French language and literature”; I taught English and sometimes French as replacement teacher in schools and high schools in Parisian suburbs, recruited by Créteil and Versailles Academies, from 2001 to 2005, and from 2012 to 2016. I was interpreter translator from 2001 to 2016. Since 2016, my source of income is private tuition and mostly my book royalties. My 5th novel, The Russian testament (Original French version Le Testament Russe) was published in March 2020 by Gallimard Publishers.
In my novels, I have so far depicted women’s condition in India and Europe, social and ethnical discrimination, passion for foreign languages, power of literature in changing our destiny… I was married 8 years to Lionel Ray, a famous French poet who received a Goncourt award, former professor of French literature in Preparatory School. He also lives in Saint-Brieuc.
The student bedroom is 127 square feet, with a big window overlooking a small street, gardens and the Saint Michel church. In the room there are several large bookshelves, a double bed, a bedside table, a desk with drawers, two chairs, a cupboard, a computer, a scanner/printer, a table and bedside lamp.
The room is decorated tastefully with some paintings and photos. The student will also have a cupboard in the entrance to share with me. I am the owner of a two bedroom apartment of 710 square feet, very sunny and well aired; it has two bedrooms; one big drawing and a dining room with bookshelf, paintings; a big kitchen with all modern gadgets (no gas, only electric ovens); a spacy bathroom, toilets, a big balcony comfortably decorated with plants and chairs. It is on the first floor of a building situated in the most coveted area of the city: Saint Michel. There is no elevator, but the staircase is large. The building is well maintained, regularly cleaned. My neighbours are nice and well mannered.
Location & Things to do
My street is in the heart of the city, close to a big park, two minutes walk from shops and the market, ten minutes walk from the train station. It is a very calm and homely area.
If the student smokes, he/she needs to: keep the atmosphere of my house clean and safe, open the windows while smoking and clean up regularly the ashtray etc. I am very serious teacher and need fix study hours. As a writer, I need to work on my new book, so I need a calm atmosphere at my home in general. A private bathroom is available on request.
