Julia and Kip
I have a life-long love of language and words and feel extremely lucky to be able to make a living from my imagination. I absolutely love teaching English – I began taking students last year but previous to this I spent many years giving talks and readings to both primary and secondary school children and travelling around Ireland and throughout Europe to participate in literary festivals and events.
As a child I was easily bored and distracted so my main goal in teaching English is to make it interesting, absorbing and fun. I teach my students in the mornings – we read, write, talk and watch and discuss interactive videos, we then break for lunch and spend our afternoons doing whatever activities my students are interested in and exploring our neighbourhood. I gently correct their pronunciation and grammar in all our conversations, provided they are happy for me to do so.
My long term partner Kip is a highly talented and successful portrait photographer with over twenty five years’ experience.
Ruby Mae is a quirky, funny, clever and kind eleven year old. She has lived all her life by the sea, is very interested in sharks, hates swimming lessons but loves to swim under water in her own free style. She goes to a small school in Dalkey – there are only twelve children in her class. Ruby Mae is very good with her hands, she loves to draw and is better at maths than her mother. When she grows up she wants to be an actor, writer, artist and maybe a vet. She also wants to run a café with her best friend and to live together with lots of dogs.
We live in a bright, spacious three bed-roomed apartment on the coast of Dalkey. It’s set in a beautiful complex overlooking Killiney bay and Dalkey Island and has a large landscaped communal garden and a communal sun terrace. We have been living here for six years and know all of our neighbours well and trust them entirely. We are less than a ten minute walk from Dalkey train station and from the village which is full of wonderful restaurants, gift shops and an excellent book shop.
Dalkey is an absolutely beautiful seaside location within very easy access of Dublin city centre and its numerous cultural, historical and shopping streets. The sea around is excellent for sailing, fishing and swimming and Dalkey island can be visited by taking trips with the local boat man. Our village is also close to the Wicklow Mountains which offer beautiful walks, horse riding and picnics. We have excellent WIFI and though we don’t want any smoking indoors we don’t mind having smokers so long as they smoke outside the home.
