Your Teacher
Jeanette has been teaching English to students with HLI since 2013. She has a wealth of experience with both children of all ages and adults. Your host Jeanette likes to keep fit and runs most days. She goes to yoga classes and occasionally to the gym. She loves to travel and has visited countries in most continents in the world, including China, India and most of Asia! She enjoys many hobbies and interests including reading, cooking, trips to historical sites and buildings and art galleries. When not teaching Jeanette is a Complementary Health Therapist and Life Coach. Many students have benefited from the latter if they have needed help with confidence building – especially in speaking English without being shy!
She puts her students at ease, is friendly and outgoing and thereby creates a wonderful atmosphere to learn in a place where students can feel truly at home. Most improve their English and experience being fully immersed into an English family.
Tim
26 years old, he is a full-time Rowing Coach at a private school nearby. He was a Junior GB rower himself and gold medallist. He can offer a programme of coaching to students as and when there is a need be it rowing or general fitness training. We are a 5-minute walk away from the River Thames, so access is easy to the nearby Rowing Club.
The home
The house was built in 1966 by a renowned architect. There are about 25 houses set in landscaped grounds which features a secluded woodland area which is ideal for picnics. We have 3 bedrooms and the living space opens out into the garden. As we are at the top of the hill, we have far reaching views across the Thames Valley. We also have a black and white cat called Pedro who has curious markings, and looks as if he has a moustache! He responds well to all languages, not just English!
Location
Taplow village is a beautiful location. There is a pretty village green, primary school, a church and of course a pub. Taplow has a station with a direct line to London which takes 45 minutes. The town of Windsor and the Castle are very close by. The Queen spends most weekends in residence. It has been possible to get a siting of her on occasions! We are close to the River Thames, so walking and cycling is possible. We are a 15 minute walk to Clivedon House which was the home of The Astors and where a famous scandal took place known as the Profumo Affair.
Taplow House was occupied by a famous politician and now is a Japanese buddhist centre. Runnymede well known for the signing of the Magna Carta is close to Windsor. Oxford is a popular place to visit full of history and beautiful buildings – 45 minutes by car. Students like to visit there if they are Harry Potter fans, as some of the films were made on location at some of the famous colleges and the Bodleian Library. The nearest town is Maidenhead with shops, cafes and restaurants.
