Your hosts

Eva has extensive experience working with students with dyslexia and speech and language difficulties. She likes making her lessons stimulating and fun by using varied and interesting resources tailored to individual needs. She has been hosting foreign students for many years, from young children of 10 to teenagers and adults. Her approach to teaching English as a Foreign Language is methodical, creative and enthusiastic. Eva is happy to teach both adults and young people. Eva lives with her husband Michael who is a chef by trade. Eva and Michael have five grown up children and four grandchildren between them.

Eva and her husband enjoy growing vegetables and herbs in their spare time, making sure there is an abundant food harvest every year. Eva is a vegan and is passionate about healthy eating. She makes delicious, wholesome meals with their freshly picked vegetables. Very happy to prepare gluten-free and dairy-free meals. None of the extended family members live at home but they regularly visit and you may be lucky enough to meet some of them. The family also has a female cat called Kitty. She likes her own space and doesn’t enjoy too much attention. Kitty spends a lot of time outside. Both Eva and Michael are non-smokers. Eva’s interests are around food and nutrition, healthy living, practising yoga, mindfulness and meditation. She is an active person and loves country walks, mountain hiking, travel, swimming, music and reading.

Throughout the year, they also sporadically host other student-learners but never of the same nationality as you, so that only English is ever spoken and practised at home. As there are no children living at home this would be a great opportunity for you to practise your English and make a friend.

Michael is a chef and enjoys food and gardening.

We live in a historic area where the famous Battle of Hastings took place in the year 1066 AD. Hastings and St Leonards-on-Sea are two inseparable towns with a lot of character. Our house is modern, spacious and comfortable, having four bedrooms, a conservatory and a garden. The house is in close proximity of shops, take-aways, post office and banks. Near-by, there is a beautiful park, named after Queen Alexandra, that offers walks, tennis courts, football pitch, running and cycling tracks and children’s playgrounds. There are many attractions in town which include Hastings Castle & the 1066 Story, Smugglers Adventure, four museums and an Art Gallery, Blue Reef Aquarium, Hastings Country Park and Nature Reserve, which can be accessed via the East Hill lift. This is the steepest funicular railway in the UK with the original wooden Victorian coaches still in use. From the top of both East and West Hills you can admire extensive views over the town and English Chanel.

You can also enjoy a fun ride on one of the miniature trains which run alongside Hastings seafront or you can go Go-carting or walking or simply to the beach. There are many pubs and restaurants, you will be spoiled for choice. There is a good network of public transport, with buses running regularly all over Hastings and St Leonards and to near-by towns such as Rye, Bexhill-on-Sea and Eastbourne. The railway network offers twice-an-hour direct trains to central London from our three local stations – Hasting, St Leonards Warrior Square and West St Leonards. Nearest Airport: London Gatwick has a direct railway link from our town which takes an hour and a half of travelling. There is also a direct coach link into London and from there transport to other airports such as the City, Stansted, Luton and Heathrow.
