Would you like to become a host family? We accept applications year-round in all of our destinations.

WHY HOST AND TEACH FOREIGN STUDENTS?

Hosting and teaching from home is a great and rewarding experience and a flexible way of earning an income. You choose when you host and who you host. You are free to accept or turn down a student offered to you. We have students of all ages (children, teenagers or adults), backgrounds and nationalities. Homestays vary from 1 week to 2 or 3 weeks and can include from 10 to 25 hours of private tuition with or without activities. Some host teachers work all year round, others only during school holidays. We have a steady stream of students throughout the year, not only during the summer.

You work on a freelance basis, you are in charge and can earn a good income providing private lessons in the comfort of your home. We want happy students but also happy families, as this is the key to a successful homestay – we do our best to propose students who suit you and vice versa.

What qualifications do you need to be a homestay teacher?

A university degree (any academic subject) and a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience and/or a teaching qualification (TEFL, TESOL, CELTA, PGCE etc.)

How does hosting work?

You accommodate a foreign student and treat them as a member of your family, typically providing 15 hours of formal language lessons per week on a one-to-one basis. You also provide 3 meals, and activities when these are requested.

Home Language International is looking for hosts who:

  • Can provide a welcoming family atmosphere and comfortable home
  • Can provide guests with their own room and home-cooked meals
  • Can offer stimulating activities
  • Love teaching and want to share their enthusiasm for their language and culture with others

Host families range from the traditional – with two adults and one or more children – to one-parent families, young couples without children, retired couples and people who live alone.
